QGIS and Mapservices.gov.yk.ca #2

I’ve had this sitting in draft for over a year, waiting for me to come back to it and add missing details. That’s not going to happen any time soon and I’ve had 2 requests lately for how to do this. So, here it is, as is, where is. Hopefully you can make some use out of it. #2 of 2.

Qgis 2.16+ is needed

Adding connections

  1. Layer – Add Layer – Add ArcGIS FeatureServer Layer…
  2. New (for a new connection). Give a name and enter https://gis.ohiodnr.gov/arcgis/rest/services/OIT_Services/odnr_landbase/MapServer/ in field URL.
  3. Connect (connect to service to fetch layers).
  4. Select layer. For example Current Township.
  5. Add.

An improvement over earlier versions, you no longer have to manually create entries for each layer. You do need to though for each MapServer service. For example, for the CanVec base layers:

To get the list of available services, use the ArcGIS REST Browser interface and scan for all entries ending in (MapServer) and copy the link urls.
